About this lot:
A prime example of a high-impact natural process from Ethiopia. The extended anaerobic fermentation of these Landrace varietals has produced an explosion of fruity notes and complex acidity: mixed berries with grapefruit-like acidity and a long wine-like finish with notes of cacao!
About origin:
This exceptional coffee from Lalesa, Gedeb, is the direct result of Ephtah Specialty Coffee’s vision for a truly collaborative and sustainable supply chain. Instead of simply sourcing from the region, Ephtah has put down deep roots, purchasing land in 2023 and building their own state-of-the-art site to partner directly with the local community.
Grown at a staggering altitude of 2150-2200 meters, classic Landrace varieties thrive under the shade of native Ensete trees. The coffee then undergoes a bold and patient processing method designed to unlock extraordinary flavor. After being handpicked, the cherries are fermented for a full nine days in sealed barrels, followed by a slow and gentle drying period of 13-18 days on the largest network of drying beds in Gedeb.
Ephtah’s investment goes far beyond the cup; it is a holistic commitment to the community’s well-being. This coffee supports tangible social projects, including the opening of a new daycare center for farmers’ children and direct participation in the Ama Commitment scheme to empower women producers. By ensuring fair and timely payments, Ephtah is building a model of true partnership.
The result is a coffee that is not only remarkable in quality but also rich in purpose. It represents a shared investment in the future of Gedeb – a testament to the incredible things that happen when quality and community are cultivated hand-in-hand.
