The producers of Buncho live high in the beautiful Bombe mountains and have an out-grower relationship with our Ethiopian partner, Daye Bensa. The out-grower group consists of hunderds of farmers in various parts of the mountain range, and these producers deliver their coffee to Daye Bensa’s Buncho Washing Station. The main varieties are JARC 74112 & cultivated local varieties.
Due to the staggering elevations of up to 2120 meters, the beans are very dense, with heavy concentrations of the smaller screen sizes (the majority is at 13-14). In Buncho, Daye
Bensa operated a newly acquiered Pegamos Pulper unit, which is very well equipped in producing honey lot as it is able to tweak the amount of mucilage left on the beans. This lot in particular is a Red Honey, which means it dries in a medium amount of mucilage as opposed to the more fermenty Black Honey, or the cleaner White Honey.
After pulping, the Red Honey is dried on African beds for about 15 to 17 days during which it is rotated often to prevent sticking to the dried beds and breaking of parchment. During peak sun, the beds are covered to prevent over drying.
Daye Bensa works with various communities of out-growers from whom they receive cherries and work with multiple washing stations in the Bensa, Sidama area. In addition to Buncho some of their other stations are: Rumu Damo, Keramo, Shantawene, Hamasho, and Bombe.
Daye Bensa is no stranger to quality and has learned how to produce high quality coffees: in 2020, they won 7th place in the COE, in 2021 8th place and in 2022, 2nd place! Roastberry has been working with Daye Bensa via various importers since a long time now, and we are extremely excited to further develop this relationship!
Your order is processed and shipped within 1–2 working days. Delivery takes 1–2 working days in Portugal and 3–5 in the EU.
Free shipping for orders over €40.
Keep the bag sealed, away from direct light, at room temperature. For best results use the coffee from day 7 to day 60 after roasting. Grind fresh before brewing.
We do not cut costs on green coffee, and we try to work with the same producers and importers season after season. If you want to know what we paid for a lot or how it scored on the cupping table, ask us: we are glad to share.
